Thanks Beverley,
There were a couple of other soldiers called "John Garvin". Including William John Garvin (service number 7/1730) , known as John Garvin who appears to have been a labourer in Nelson when he enlisted. His mother was Ellen Rebecca Garvin of Bridge Street, Nelson, but he appears to have been born in Kumara, Southland, N.Z.. However that John Garvin 7/1730 appears to have survived the war. There is also a James Garvin (service number 10/1821) also know as Thomas James Jeremiah Garvin, who was killed in action at the Somme in 1916. James is also listed as being born in Kumara and having a mother in Bridge Street, Nelson. Maybe it is this man and not the John Garvin listed, who is meant to be on the Roll of Honour.

Hi, My name is Beverley and I am currently researching my Great Grandfather, John Garvin, PTE of the 7th South Lancashire Regiment. (no. 16703). You have him on your records as living in Nelson but I'm afraid that that information is inaccurate. He actually lived in Ashton in Makerfield, Lancashire and never came to New Zealand. My Great Grandmother, Norah Garvin, moved to Hayes, Middx, UK (near Heathrow Airport) after his death, and lived there until her death in 1970. I hope that helps! Kind regards, Beverley
