Transcript of the Oral History Interview with Mr William Wehner
Abstract
William Wehner was born in Westport in 1905 to William Frederick and ? Wehner (nee White). His mother died when he was seven days old and his father remarried a few years later to May Jensen, who had three children – Les, Ernie and Hilda. William trained as a baker and worked at a number of bakeries in Westport, Christchurch, Blenheim, Murchison, Tapawera, Nelson and Richmond, where he bought his own bakery. William’s wife was Sarah Helen Kerr and her family was from Wai-iti / Wakefield.
