Abstract

Reg Austin was born in Granity on the West Coast (New Zealand) and moved to Motueka in 1929.  He worked as a truck driver for Holyoake's cartage firm in Murchison. He later worked on the electrics at the Stockton mine and at Hope, as well as cutting marble on the Takaka Hill.
