Abstract

Valmai was the Granddaughter of the first white woman to step ashore in Nelson. Her father was Reuben Bird and his parents were Anne and Charles Bird. Her mother's parents were William and Louisa Neimann from Ranzau. She married in 1931 and lived in Appleby and Hope before moving to Oxford Street in Richmond.  She had a daughter, Josephine.
