What is Anna Hill's Album?

This antique photograph album is part of the Waimea South Collection. It was purchased in about February of 1898, for 6 pound 10 shillings. 'Miss. Anna Hill, Brightwater, Nelson, N.Z' is written in pencil at the front of the album.

Maureen Barton, who inherited the album from her great uncle Ted Silcock has written a note about the album. It is glued in the front of the album.  "Ellen Hill (married George Johnson Silcock) later in life had a stroke and was bedridden. She died in 1914.  Anna Hill her youngest sister, most probably nursed her, hence the album of Hills and Silcocks. Edward (Ted) Silcock & wife Renee continued to look after Anna until her death."

Sadly, many of the photographs in the album have not endured the passing of time very well.

Anna Hill was born in 1852, she was the daughter of Thomas and Ann Hill (nee Ovens). Her siblings included Benjamin, William, and Ellen (1850-c1916). She died in 1937.
